Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy

by Michael J. Shea, Ph.D.

Life expresses itself as motion. All cells subtly move together with an ordered pattern. It is a phenomenon that is produced by the rhymic waves of all the body's fluid systems harmoniously moving together. This can be felt with sensitive hands.

The presence of these subtle waves in the body was observed by an Osteopath named Dr. William Sutherland over 100 years ago. He discovered the motion of cranial bones and a much deeper system of slow rhythms that involves the whole body. He ultimately identified the particular importance of the rhythmic motion in the fluids throughout the body like blook and lymph or spinal fluid in the brain. Even living bones, organs and membranes in the adult body primarily consist of fluids. We are in fact 75% living water.

Dr. Sutherland eventually concluded after years of personal research, that such fluid motions were all generated by a life force carried in the fluids which he referred to as the Breath of Life from the book of Genesis in the Bible. All these deeper movements are now collectively called the Primary Respiratory System in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy.
